About IMZA Invest

A father-daughter investing project. Real money, real portfolio, real mistakes — documented for anyone who wants to learn how investing actually works in the UK.

The Short Version

In early 2026, a healthcare professional in his 40s decided to teach his 15-year-old daughter Zo how to invest. They started with £1,000. The goal: build a £60,000 university fund before she turns 18. Along the way, they discovered that most UK investing websites are either drowning in jargon or quietly trying to sell you something. So they built one that wasn't.

That's IMZA Invest. It's a real family's investing journey, documented honestly, with guides written for people who are just getting started.

Who's Behind This

The dad: A UK healthcare professional with over 15 years of experience making evidence-based decisions under pressure. Not an FCA-regulated financial adviser. Not a fund manager. Just someone who spent two decades in a profession that demands careful analysis, risk assessment, and clear communication — and decided to apply those same skills to investing education.

Every platform comparison on this site is based on live fees, publicly available data, and independent research. Nothing is recommended just because it pays a higher affiliate commission.

Zo (age 15): The real beginner. If something on this site confuses Zo, it gets rewritten until it doesn't. She's not a character or a marketing angle — she's a real teenager who picked her first stock, wrote about the experience, and updates her portfolio monthly. Her perspective keeps the content honest. Adults have a way of overcomplicating things. Teenagers don't tolerate that.

Why This Site Exists

Most people in the UK don't invest. Not because they're not smart enough, but because every resource they find either:

  • Assumes you already know what an ISA wrapper is
  • Buries the useful stuff behind jargon walls
  • Is secretly an affiliate funnel dressed up as education
  • Tells you what to do without explaining why

We wanted to build the site we wished existed when we started: clear, honest, UK-specific, written for real beginners, with a real portfolio you can follow.

What Makes This Different

📊 Real Portfolio

We publish our actual holdings, returns, and mistakes every month. You can see exactly what we own, what it's worth, and what went wrong.

🎯 Beginner-First

Every guide is tested by a 15-year-old. If she can't follow it, we rewrite it. Plain English, UK context, no assumed knowledge.

💷 UK-Specific

ISAs, SIPPs, HMRC rules, FCA context, UK platforms, GBP examples. Not US advice repackaged with pound signs.

🔍 Transparent Affiliates

We earn commissions on some platform links. We disclose this on every page. We never recommend something just because it pays more.

How We Write Content

Every guide and review on this site follows a consistent editorial approach:

  1. Research: We check live platform fees, read regulatory disclosures, compare with independent data sources, and review real user feedback.
  2. Draft: Content is written in plain English by someone with professional experience in evidence-based decision-making.
  3. Beginner test: Zo reads every guide. If she asks "what does that mean?" — we rewrite it.
  4. Fact-check: All fee figures, tax thresholds, and ISA limits are verified against official HMRC and FCA sources.
  5. Update: Pages are reviewed when fees change, tax years roll over, or platforms update their offerings. Every page shows when it was last updated.

What We Don't Do

This is important:

  • We are not financial advisers. We are not regulated by the FCA. Nothing on this site is personal financial advice.
  • We don't tell you what to buy. We explain options, compare platforms, and share our own decisions — but your situation is yours.
  • We don't accept paid sponsorships. No brand has ever paid to appear on this site.
  • We don't pretend investing is risk-free. Capital can go down as well as up. We say this because it's true, not because we have to.

What We Cover

Our Values

Accuracy: We verify facts and cite sources. If we get something wrong, we update it and note the correction.

Clarity: We use plain English. If we use jargon, we explain it first. If a 15-year-old can't follow it, it's not ready.

Independence: We don't accept paid sponsorships. Our views are our own. We earn affiliate income, but we disclose it on every page.

Honesty: We share our portfolio including the losses. We say "we don't know" when we don't know. We don't pretend investing is easy or guaranteed.

Zo's Journey

This whole project started with a question over dinner: "Dad, what even IS the stock market?"

Three months later, Zo has a real investment portfolio, has written about picking her first stock, documented what she learned in month one, and published the honest truth after three months.

The portfolio is public. The mistakes are public. The goal — £60,000 by university — is ambitious and might not happen. But the point was never the destination. It's the financial education along the way.
